About the event
“Anglo-Saxon Northumbria, a maritime kingdom?”
Northumbria has one of the most expansive and beautiful coasts of these Isles, and idyllic views such as Bamburgh define the modern county as much as they did the Anglo-Saxon kingdom. But in the pre-Viking period, just how defining was the maritime landscape, and with new archaeological finds, can we understand more fully the role that water played in the creation of the Northumbrian Golden Age?"
Dr Chris Ferguson, an Oxford scholar with a PhD in the archaeology of early medieval Northumbria, has over 15 years experience in the Museums and Heritage Sector. He is a passionate advocate for culture, art, and heritage, and serves on a number of partnership and trustee boards regionally and nationally. Dr Ferguson is Director of Visitor Experience at the Ad Gefrin Museum at Wooler.
