Jane Hawkes is Professor Emerita attached to the Department of History of Art and the Centre for Medieval Studies at the University of York. She has taught and published widely in the field of the early medieval art and architecture of Britain and Ireland, with a special interest in the sculpture of the period, focussing on cross-cultural synergies within the Insular world and early Christian / early medieval Europe, as well as the historiography of the carvings, the subject of her forthcoming publication with Routledge: Creating a Scholarship: Perceptions of Anglo-Saxon Sculpture, c. 1550-1950.
