"Current work at High Rochester Roman Fort" with Richard Carlton

Richard Carlton is a director of The Archaeological Practice, based in Newcastle upon Tyne and is also a Visiting Fellow of Newcastle University. He is well known to BAS members, having spoken to us on several occasion, particularly about his excavations on Lindisfarne. He has been running excavations in association with Newcastle University and local volunteers at High Rochester Roman fort (Bremenium) for some years. His talk to BAS on April 13th will discuss the progress made on the excavations outside the walls of High Rochester Roman fort, during which some unexpected features, including a kiln, have been uncovered.  Amongst the finds two very unusual intaglios, a small altar and a leather shoe are of particular interest.
